It’s that time of the year when January (the longest month of the year ever!) is coming to an end, there’s a bit of a “stretch in the evenings”, the NEXT Spring/Summer catalogue arrives and you allow yourself to think a little bit about spring. Personally, Spring is definitely my favourite season of the year. I love the new growth, the bright green in the buds on the trees and the gorgeous colours in the spring flowers. I feel Spring is the time of the year when we’re full of expectation for a long lazy, warm summer ahead. The optimism I have is always obviously better than the reality in this country of ours but hey we’ve all gotta hope :)

For Julia’s eyes I used a pink eyeshadow trio palette from Boots No 17, “Pretty in Pink” that I’ve used from my make-up training days with Oonagh Boman and I still love it and repurchase it when I run out. In the socket/crease line I darkened the purple with a matte purple eyeshadow from MAC “Fig 1.1″. I lined Julia’s eyes with a strong black gel liner by Maybelline and added Ardell 105 false lashes. Gordon’s Chemists in N.Ireland are by far still the cheapest place to buy Eylure and Ardell lashes. On the lips I used “Gentlemen Prefer Pink” by Revlon and finished with Rimmel Vinyl Gloss lipgloss. On Julia’s cheeks I highlighted with the light pink eyeshadow from the Boots No 17 eyeshadow palette and dusted the apples with “Pink Swoon” by MAC. With so much pink it really is important to line the eyes well with black otherwise the eyes can start to look as if you’ve sore eyes so top tip, if using pink eyeshadow, create a “barrier” with a dark liner or dark eyeshadow just at the lash line. In the bottom lash line I used a cream eyeliner “Vow” by Illamasqua. On the lashes I used a black mascara “Falsies” by Maybelline. In Julia’s brows I used a mix of “Omega” eyeshadow and “Charcoal Brown” by MAC just to fill and shape without  being too severe.

For this shot Julia had this gorgeous purple scarf by Biba with her which we decided to reinvent into a hat. To tone in with the colour of the fur I used “Up the Amp” lipstick by MAC on Julia’s lips.

Christmas and over the holiday season  seems to becoming more and more popular for weddings and I’ve been busy doing a good few over the last couple of weeks.A winter wedding is usually around 12pm so that normally means me being at the bride’s house around 7.30am/8am, when it’s still pitch black! So it’s always a bit of a challenge getting the foundation match right until the light appears and in our country sometimes around this time of the year there’s not a lot of light about! But I love the richness of colours in brides colour schemes, from garnet reds to midnight navys, deep champagnes and dusky purples. The colours all seem to reflect the richness of the season.

This year was special for brides due to the rare date of 12.12.12 and I had two brides who got married on this date. The first is Magdalen who had her wedding ceremony at Belfast Castle.

Catherine who got married just before Christmas too

The second bride who go married on 12.12.12 is Una. However, Una, being half Thai and half Irish, had her ceremony on a beach in Thailand. She then had a reception here on 27.12.12 at Brownlow Castle with all her family and friends.

I had to photograph the Jimmy Choos! As close as I’ll get to them :)

And finally but certainly not least Nicola, who got married on the very last day of 2012, New Years Eve!

So that’s a selection of all the beautiful bridal make-up I had the pleasure of doing over Christmas and the New Year. A very Happy 2013 to all of my make-up customers.
