Yesterday it was my mum’s birthday and as she lives in the gorgeous village that is Moira (very dear to my heart, my home place for so many years!), we decided to go for lunch  to The Fat Gherkin on the main street and it was just gorgeous. I had a mushroom, pine nut and goats cheese tartlet with a tuscan salad, yum and a pot of tea (no license so no glass of wine unfortunately).  As my parents are keen bowls players, they were rushing to their bowls for 2pm  so I left and on the way home I took the opportunity to  stop at Rushmere and bought a few things in Superdrug. Here’s my mini haul…….( I took these photos myself after gathering up some leaves and conkers on my walk this morning with the dogs at The Argory). I couldn’t wait to get back to the studio to set up and arrange my wee autumn themed “set”!

The first thing I picked up was this Sleek Makeup Face Contour Kit in “Dark”. Everytime I’ve been in Superdrug (and yesterday was no exception, very annoyingly) they only have the light and medium shades left and I’d been holding out for the medium one. However, I read a review recently that the Light and Medium are a bit orange so decided just to go for the dark. I tried it this morning and it is dark but if used sparingly and correctly it’s a fantastic contourer. This Contour Kit gets such great reviews in the professional make-up industry I’d recommend anyone buying one next time they’re in a Superdrug store. At £6.49 it’s a great price. I will still have NARS “Laguna” in my kit and probably will be my first choice but this is a great alternative at a fraction of the price.

The lighter colour is the highlighter which I’m not dying about (I’m very loyal to Bobbi Brown on this one having tried a LOT of highlighters!) but it’s ok. The photo looks like there is shimmer in the brown contourer but it’s maybe just a small bit of the highlighter has leaked it’s way over, it is totally matte which is the one big thing to remember when using a bronzer as a contourer, you don’t want any shimmer in it or it’ll just look terrible.

The next thing I bought is one of these, a Maybelline Color Tattoo 24 HR gel cream eyeshadow in the shade “On and On Bronze”.  I’ve been wanting to try one of these since they came out a few months ago as all of the professional make-up artists I follow on Twitter, Facebook and their various blogs have been raving about them. Maybelline claim   “• Ink technology creates 24HR wear shadow for our most intense, long-lasting color saturation  • Cream formula glides on without creasing and keeps color vibrant• Ophthalmologist-tested.  Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers” .  I put it on this morning at about 8.45 am and it’s still looking very well now at 9.45pm and I have really greasy eyelids and everything tends to crease and disappear on me. These gel cream eyeshadows are so easy to apply (with your fingers or a brush) and blend really easily.  You can add more or less depending on the intensity you’re after. I’d say if you have more mature eyelids with fine lines just be careful as they can highlight this but there’s some fantastic colours in these and I’m definitely going to invest in a few more.  At £4.99 each another bargain.

When I’m doing eyebrows, I use a mixture of powder applied with a brow brush or an eyebrow pencil and sometimes both on the eyebrows for a more natural finish depending on how much the eyebrows need filled and shaped. My favourite eyebrow pencil is still the GOSH one, which I used when I was training (my all time worst are the MAC ones are they screw up and then stick!). I use the colour “Brown” and the other one is “GreyBrown”. I just love these. There is also a handy spool on the other end if you don’t have a separate eyebrow spool. GOSH also do a great eyebrow ink pen which I haven’t tried yet but may get one on my next Superdrug visit. These GOSH eyebrow pencils are £5.49 each (although I just looked at my receipt and was charged £5.49 for one and £3 for the other??)

My other purchases included a Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation in the colour no.55 which is for my own personal use. I just love this foundation. I alternate between Clinique foundations and Estee Lauder Double Wear but I love the coverage, colour and finish of this foundation too and as mine had just run out I wanted to replace it. Even better yesterday, there was a free mascara (worth £7.99) with it and I used it this morning and thought it was great. It didn’t slide and gave a good long lash look, a great bonus :) I also bought a Barry M lipgloss (£4.49). They’re really good, last well and look good.

The last real bonus purchase was the Eylure false lashes. At the minute there is a 3 for 2 offer on and a box is priced at £5.45. With the 101′s and 107′s there are currently two sets in one pack so effectively you can get six pairs of lashes for £10.90!!! I just think that’s brilliant :)  So there you have my Superdrug sweep. I also bought some baby wipes, cotton wool, deodorant etc but don’t think you really want to see all that stuff. I used my Superdrug “mirror” card at the till and still haven’t a clue what you get from a Superdrug card but sure there’s more cards in my purse than anything else, even the Weight Watchers one still that I always seem to hand over by mistake at Tescos!

This is a great opportunity to come and learn the art of how to apply your eye make-up as well as filling and shaping your brows to perfection! It is limited to six places as I want everyone to be able to really see the intricate application of base, shadow, liner etc. Come with a friend and enjoy a girly night out with a glass of wine and some great professional make-up  tips.
